I think I can see your place from my back deck. Our ranch is named Crest Point Farms. We have a very small orchard, two herds of wild turkeys who follow the cows around and scratch in the cow paddys, several high flying vultures who keep the smaller pasture critters in check, one large hawk, lots of finches, several flocks of wild deer, and of course some dexter cattle. As of this moment, we have seven girls, one boy, and one not-so-boy destined for market. They are all registered with the PDCA. Five of the girls look like they will calf in late April or early May. A neighbor, Tanglewood Ranch, has two girls, one of which should have calved yesterday, the other has a new baby polled dun bull. We run all the girls together in one herd which we tightly manage using a rotational grazing plan and share the work load. Our herd dun bull is horned and his name is Gunner because he does not shoot blanks! We'll probably replace him with the new baby dun polled bull once he grows up. I must drive close by your place on my way down to Livewire to pick up electric fence supplies. It's great to hear from you. Bob and Carrie Curlee
Alice Peterson said… Hellow Mia: I was excitied to find out that there are more Dexters out there. We have one, which is going on 3 and she had a calf August 6, 2012. Our mother's name is Daisy and her baby is Toni Olivia. They are such beautiful cows. We are anxious to find out how many other bulls are out there since there isn't that much stock around here that aren't related. Hope to communicate with you later. Alice
